The Performance Loft's primary goal is to provide dynamic performing arts series that enrich the cultural fabric of our community and help us all to experience the unusual in vibrant and creative ways. We serve our community by presenting innovative and original performing arts through our monthly arts programs.

In addition, the Performance Loft offers classes to all members of the community. We place special importance on our youth outreach programs, offering workshops at the Loft and taking programs into area schools.

The Performance Loft began in 2002, when Chris Beach returned to Redlands from an artist fellowship in Germany. While in Germany, Chris studied approaches to making Dance/Theatre with companies in Freiburg, Frankfurt and Berlin. Chris was inspired by the performances occurring in alternative spaces (e.g. churches, train depots, and warehouses) and determined to find an alternative performance space in Redlands.

Through the generosity of the Armentrout family, Chris set up shop in the third floor of Redlands' oldest citrus packinghouse, the Mitten Building. Together with co-artistic director, Jo Dierdorff, the Performance Loft began to establish itself as an innovative arts organization producing new and experiential works such as Yellow Gate, House of Shoes, Red Hands, Ladder/Boot, Losing Things and interpreting select published works like The Threepenny Opera, A Christmas Memory, and Happy Days.
